One of the best known and most widely consumed green teas in the world. Also known as the Green Pearl for its pleasing shape and color, the best Gunpowder is produced in Zhejiang province by rolling large, tender leaves into evenly sized little balls. They blossom under hot water to produce a full-flavored, refreshingly astringent infusion with a hint of smokiness. Gunpowerder can be a stimulating breakfast tea in the morning or served as an accompaniment to food anytime. This tea is also popular in many parts of the world served with mint.
GROWING REGION
Zhejiang, China: Zhejiang, China is an eastern coastal province with a humid, subtropical climate. One of the most famous tea producing regions in China, records of tea production here date back as early as the Wei and Jin Dynasties, 1500 years ago.
BREWING INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend a full-sized teapot or individual Gaiwans. Using approximately half a teaspoon of leaf per person and 70C (158F) water, infuse for 1-2 minutes, adjusting steeping time, water temperature and amount of leaf to taste. For extra refreshment try adding fresh or dried mint leaves to the infusion. Tastes great iced, too!
My everyday tea. I drink it Grandpa style in a tea tumbler that I take with me in the car. It's perfect for that. Smooth with no bitterness at all when steeped at or near 160F. Lasts multiple infusions even adding cold water which I sometimes have to do.

My new everyday green tea. Delightful finish. No astringency or bitterness as is true of the "Asian grocery store" gunpowder greens I have tried. I brewed it 'Grandpa' style in a tea tumbler with no infuser basket and sipped it in my car for most of the day. The whole- leaves unfurled and politely remained at the bottom of the vessel. I added room-temperature water for a second infusion and you would not have known it. Plenty of fresh flavor notes that lasted all the way home.
