DESCRIPTION

Produced in the famed Wudong Village of China’s Guangdong Province. This exceptional Oolong is sometimes called “Wu Ye” (dark leaf), referencing both the origin of Wudong and the dark, lusciously curled leaf style. The prices of “Dan Cong” or Phoenix Oolong have been escalating; with price increases, there is often a degradation of quality and loss of the unique honey floral notes which are signature to a fine Phoenix Oolong. We are ecstatic to showcase this great Phoenix Oolong, which produces ample amounts of honey, fruit, and floral notes. It also has the silky richness that has been missing in Phoenix Oolongs of recent years. The elegant and gentle mouth-feel is followed by a long and insistent finish that you will not soon forget. Try infusing this tea with hot but not boiling water, let it cool a bit and then savor the bouquet of wonderful fragrances and textures not found anywhere else.

GROWING REGION

Guangdong, China: The Eastern province of Guangdong, once known as Canton, is a subtropical region, strongly influenced from the moist air of the South China Sea. Here oolong, black, puerh and green teas are grown. Among Guangdong teas, oolong from Wu Dong in the Feng Huang Shan (Phoenix Mountain) area is most highly regarded.

BREWING SUGGESTIONS

The standard rule of thumb using 3-5 grams of tea per 6-8 oz of water applies here. We cupped this tea with 3 grams of leaves in a standard 6 oz porcelain Gaiwan, using near boiling water and an infusion time of 1-2 minutes. Drain into another cup and let it cool a bit before taking your first sip. Always adjust quantity of leaves, infusion time, and water temperature according to your personal preferences.

  1. This tea is elegantly sublime. When I drink it, brings tranquility and calm. It’s a lighter tea. I buy it regularly.

  2. So I had a cup only. May not have had the water at the optimum temperature. It’s tasty, especially at the end of the sipping. I’m going to try again. It’s not a very strong tea.
