Organic Gunpowder
DESCRIPTION
Also known as the Green Pearl for its pleasing shape and color, our certified organic Gunpowder is produced in Zhejiang province under strict IMO supervision. Our partners roll large, tender leaves into evenly sized little balls which blossom under hot water to produce a full, rich and smooth cup of refreshing green tea. Excellent as a hearty breakfast tea, afternoon tea, or served with food anytime.
GROWING REGION
Zhejiang, China: Zhejiang, China is an eastern coastal province with a humid, subtropical climate. One of the most famous tea producing regions in China, records of tea production here date back as early as the Wei and Jin Dynasties, 1500 years ago.
BREWING SUGGESTIONS
To prepare Gunpowder tea we recommend either a full-sized teapot or standard sized 6 oz Gaiwan. Use about half 3 grams of leaves per Gaiwan or per 10 oz of water, infuse with 70-75C (158-167F) water for 1-2 minutes. Because Gunpowder tea leaves are rather large and take a while to open fully, they may be re-infused several times.
Excellent tea. Very pleased.
Imperial Tea doesn’t offer a loose leaf version of their Moroccan Mint blend online; only in bags.
So, I procure mint elsewhere and blend my own, about a 50/50 mix.
Still great.
This manages a bold ‘green’ taste without being too vegetal. The finish is slightly sweet. I do an initial 2-minute infusion, then add 30 seconds for a second steeping after that cup is done. This keeps astringency under control while bringing out the flavor that is still locked in the large leaves.
I’m a lazy tea drinker. I don’t weigh my tea, measure Temps or times. This tea is yummy regardless of my lack of attention.
This is my second purchase. Very good tasting tea. Will probably be my number one go to tea choice. The price is also fair for being “organic”.
