Description
Qing Hua designs,
blue and white wares
have a long history, starting in the 9th century in Henan Province, China. It was in the 14th century in Jingdezhen
(most noted ceramic production area in the history of the world)
that artisans perfected the the bold cobalt blue pigment on pure white porcelain. Exports to Europe were prized and imitated, inspiring European porcelain production after the secrets of hard paste-porcelain production was shared by Father Xavier d'Entrecolles in the early 1700's.
Although the color is blue, Qing Hua literally means "green flower" and the set represents the aesthetics of this tradition in symbolism as well as quality. The stylized handle, lid and spout are crafted to look like a branch, connecting with the floral blue design, bringing the adoration of nature to the practice of sharing fine tea. The butterfly is a symbol of romance and elegance. One expression we can draw from this design is that as we prepare our tea, we celebrate the elegance and freedom of nature. In so doing, we practice our connection to the earth through tea for all. We are reminded to become the butterfly and to be free to find our own way, to sip the connection with the earth through tea and to experience beauty and harmony.
Our Qing Hua Teapot comes with six matching cups, each decorated with a different butterfly fluttering just below the delicate rim of the interior. It is packaged in a customized silk box lined with satin so that each fragile piece is perfectly protected during storage.
Teapot capacity is approximately 11 ounces.
