Zhejiang, China is
an eastern coastal province with a humid, subtropical climate. One of the most famous
tea producing regions in China, records of tea production date back as early as
the Wei and Jin Dynasties, 1500 years ago.
Due to Roy’s health issues, we are late in announcing this year’s Imperial Lotus Heart Dragon Well. Roy has decided to go back to tradition this year. Our Lotus Heart was produced with a higher pan firing temperature and we revived the traditional practice of wrapping the tea in rough paper packets, then storing them in a lime-lined urn for 10 days to draw out unwanted moisture. The result is a Lotus Heart that is full of strength and intensity. The liquor is yellowish green with a toasty and nutty aromatic and an intense chewy and silky texture. The finish is amazingly clean and long-lasting. This year’s Lotus Heart is unlike any other and would be a tea that Lu Yu himself would be proud of. The 2018 Lotus Heart is not an opportunity you should allow yourselves to miss. Due to the strength of this year’s Lotus Heart, a smaller amount of tea and low temperature infusion is strongly advised.
To fully enhance the powerful yet poetic flavors of this great tea, we recommend using a bit less tea and experiment with various steeping times in low temperature water, according to your own preference. We suggest steeping 3-5 grams of tea per 6 oz of water at approximately 158F or 70C as a starting point but even lower temperature can be more beneficial. Always steep tea with your best-tasting water. Try steeping at an even lower temperature (this will better display the tea's unique sweetness and smooth mouth-feel without excessive astringency) for 1 minutes (again as a starting point), drain into another vessel and enjoy. These wonderful leaves can be re-steeped for multiple infusions. As always, adjust steeping time, temperature of water and quantity of tea to find your own "sweet" spot.
