Huang Shan Mao Feng
Huang Shan Mao Feng, one of the Top Ten Chinese green teas.

Anhui, China, a province in Eastern China became known for producing teas in the late 1800's.

Huang Shan Mao Feng:

Huang Shan Mao Feng is one of the Top Ten most prized teas of China. Unfortunately, along with that title and popularity come steep prices and compromises in quality standards to meet increased demand. The fact that it is a famous tea is often reason enough to command extraordinarily high price tags. Due to weather related issues, this year's production of high quality green teas are low and prices continue to escalate as quality standards continue to suffer.

During Roy's trip to the Anhui Povince this year, he cupped many different Huang Shan Mao Feng from various different producers. Only after an exhaustive elimination process and many different exchanges with tea farmers and factories, he was able to finally select this year’s harvest of Huang Shan Mao Feng.

The 2013 harvest of Huang Shan Mao Feng has an elegant sweetness with a delightfully smooth texture. The finish is mild but without the raw astringency that are usually featured by many of the lower classed Huang Shan Mao Fengs. The interestingly fresh green fruit notes enhances the relaxing and calming personality of this unique green tea.

Brewing suggestions:

We suggest using approximately 3-4 grams of tea in a 6 oz thin porcelain Gaiwan. Infuse with mid-temperature water for a minute or so. Then, decant into another cup to enjoy or drink directly from the Gaiwan, adding more water as the tea gets strong.
