Description

During the Ming dynasty (1368-1644 AD), the Chinese stopped drinking powdered tea leaves infused with water and whipped into a froth in a cha wan (a tea bowl'the Japanese still drink tea this way in their tea ceremony, having learned "the way of Tea" from China during the earlier Song dynasty). Instead, they took to drinking loose leaf tea from a gaiwan (basically, a cha wan with a lid ).

The lid keeps the liquid warm and serves as a filter, preventing the tea leaves from getting into your mouth. (See our Gaiwan Classroom for more information.) Imperial Tea Court is proud to present our specially commissioned, classic Ming-sytle gaiwans in brown and terra cotta (zhu ni) clay. Each gaiwan comes in a gift box.

Capacity: 8oz.
