A premium black tea from Anhui Province, China.
Keemun Xian Luo
1 oz. sampler (28 g) = $11.00
1/4 lb (113 g) = $40.00
For the origin of our newest black tea, we look to the Anhui Province. Anhui is one of China's major tea regions, and Keemun is among the most famous and prized teas produced there. Keemun Xian Luo (whose name means literally "silky and fragrant") stands out as a jewel among some of the more mediocre Keemuns currently being produced. It is the highest grade of the "Mao Feng" style of Keemun, which features large, tippy leaves and an abundance of fine down typical of early spring buds. This particular Keemun is choice because of the uniformity of its leaf sets, which yield harmony and balance to its unique flavor. An initial oaky sweetness gives way to dark fruits, spiced rum, and madjool dates, followed by a lightly smoky aftertaste and the lingering impression of warmth.
We recommend an initial steeping time of 1 - 4 minutes, using water just shy of boiling. After the first infusion, you might want to experiment with increased steeping times, but we guarantee at least 3 (or more) subsequent infusions. You can anticipate a rich, ruby liquor, and post-brewed leaves so uniform in color that they appear to be sculpted from milk chocolate.
